Re: Policy changes and security Carol Morse 15 Nov 2004 19:26 UTC

Carroll,

Contrary to most libraries, we let students check out periodicals until
the following day at closing. We have very little vandalism. We lose a few
periodicals that way, but they are charged a replacement fee, which can be
hefty. We charge 5 cents per copy, but microform printouts are free, since
it was too hard and costly to install coin-ops on them. Of course, some
issues "walk" away, but that happens everywhere. Carol Morse

Good day,

I would appreciate any advice. And I apologize as I know this has been
discussed previously, but couldn't locate any recent entries in the
archives.
We are going to start charging staff and students for photocopying.
There is concern that due to this change, there may be an increase in
the number of journals disappearing from the library. What solutions
have other libraries come up with to handle this possibility?

Thank you,
Carroll
