Head, Serials Cataloging Unit (Temporary)

Preferred appointment level: Assistant Librarian II - Associate Librarian
IV with an approximate salary range of $40,560 - $52,620.  This position is
temporary for two years from date of hire, with possibility of extension.

Responsibilities of the Position

The incumbent will:
·  Supervise the Serial Cataloging Unit.
·  Provide intellectual leadership on issues and emerging topics regarding
continuing and electronic resources management, metadata, and bibliographic
control.
·  Determine continuing and electronic resources policies and procedures,
resolves problems, and represents UCSD continuing and electronic resources
concerns to outside agencies.
·  Investigate, experiment with, and implement new approaches for creating
and manipulating authority and bibliographic data.
·  Lead a project to determine the feasibility of implementing the MARC
Format for Holdings Data and the NISO holdings standard.
·  Lead a project to investigate the integration of federal documents
continuing resources cataloging into mainstream cataloging workflows.
·  Assess continuing and electronic resources cataloging workloads and
workflows.
·  Serve as the UCSD Libraries’ CONSER Coordinator.
·  Act as Assistant NACO Coordinator, with responsibility primarily for the
review of NACO records, providing feedback to catalogers, and assist the
NACO Coordinator with NACO and authorities training as needed.

Required Qualifications
·  Professional degree from a library school, or other appropriate degree
or equivalent experience in one or more fields relevant to library services.
·  Demonstrated successful supervisory experience.
·  Experience in cataloging continuing and electronic resources using the
Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules, Library of Congress rule interpretations,
LC classification system and subject headings (or other thesauri), MARC21
formats, and automated library systems.
