Re: Serials Title that can't decide what it is Carol Morse 18 Feb 2005 20:59 UTC

Studio/monthly (the official title) has a record in OCLC: #57370244. It
indicates a title change.

Jean,
I don't carry this title, but from your post I would make a new bib
record
for the new title linking it back to the original. I would close out
the
bibliographic record for AV Video showing the inclusive dates for
publication (e.g., v.1 (19xx)-v.26(2004)) with a note that it is
continued
by Studio and make a new bib record for Studio beginning the
publication run
with v.27 (2004)-. (MARC tag 362)
If you are making MARC catalog records you would also add a 785 00
(continued by) entry in the AV Video bib record linking it to the new
title
Studio bib record. In the Studio record, the 362 entry will pick up
the
issue numbering system where AV Video left off and I'd add a 780 00
(Continues) entry linking Studio back to the AV Video bib record. You
could
also put a 500 note in each mentioning the change.
For example:
245 00 AV Video
310 Monthly (or whatever it was)
362 v. 1, no. 1 (19XX)-v.26, no. xx (2004)(whatever he pattern
was)
785 00 Studio--bib record no, ISBN etc.

245 00 Studio
310 Monthly
362 v.27, no. 1 (2004)-
780 00 AV Video--bib record no., etc.

Hope this helps.

Subject: [SERIALST] Serials Title that can't decide what it is

I have a question for those of you who do the cataloging of periodicals
and
what this title would be considered....I keep putting this off because
I am
stuck!

AV Video Multimedia Producer has changed. From how the publisher says
it in
his letter on the first page (and it is a letter written by the
publisher
Scott Gentry, vice president); they ceased AV Video. And then started
Studio/monthly up as a new magazine. Quoting "AVVMMP is gone and in
its
place we've built something new......we re-engineered a new magazine
from
the ground up: studio." and in the last paragraph "flip through and get
a
feel for what our new magazine is all about." Then on the front cover
they
call this first issue of Studio for January 2005 their "premier issue."
THEN
they give it the volume number 27. AV Video's last volume was 26, so
they
are kept the volume numbers for Studio going from AV Video.

I first thought it would be a title change. EBSCO is calling it a
merge. As
I re-read it I have changed my mind. It looks to me like AV Video would
be
considered ceased and Studio would be considered a new title.

Those of you in authority with the cataloging; what would you call
this? I
really appreciate your help!!

Thank you.
Jean
