Re: examples of tricky title histories Robert Dowd 22 Apr 2005 12:47 UTC

Steve,

Though not at all tricky, I was nevertheless discouraged from entering
successive entry records, and so OCLC #30846054 describes a summer
community newspaper issued with a DIFFERENT TITLE EVERY WEEK from July
17-Sept. 4, 1920 (obviously for fun). For those who do not want to
search the record, a portion of my 500 note may suffice ... "Published
as: ... T.I. Park bulletin, ... <July 17, 1920>; The T.I. Park tribune,
July 24, 1920; The T.I. Park news, July 31, 1920; The T.I. Park herald,
Aug. 7, 1920; The T.I. Park record, Aug. 14, 1920; The T.I. Park
standard, Aug. 21, 1920; The T.I. Park times, Aug. 28, 1920; The T.I.
Park press, Sept. 4, 1920."

And then OCLC #30846463 summarizes the successive record which in 1921
... "Published as: The Summertime, Apr.-June 1921; The American eagle,
July 2, 1921; The St. Lawrence breeze, July 9, 1921; The T.I. Park news,
July 16, 1921; T.I. Park town topics, July 23, 1921; T.I. Park Saturday
post, July 30, 1921; T.I. Park observer, Aug. 6, 1921; T.I. Park sun,
Aug. 13, 1921; T.I. Park express, Aug. 20, 1921; T.I. Park courier, Aug.
27, 1921; T.I. Park leader, Sept. 3, 1921 ..."

Maybe all of these should have been one record? Or nineteen?

Do you have a "favorite" example of a magazine or journal with a
particularly convoluted title history? I would like to know what it
is.
(I'd like some fresh examples for the serials course I teach at
SUNY-Albany.)

Although it will exclude some real doozies, please no series or
government publications. I want to challenge the students, but not
drive
them crazy!

Please reply to me directly, and I'll summarize for the list.
