Yes! I just had a problem with a reasonable late claim with Elsevier
and went to management and found that they DO care about doing good
business with us--their customers. It takes work to find the manager,
but it takes work for them to handle a claim out of the usual channel so
we all contribute energy while solving the problem.

I believe you have every right to insist the issue is supplied. Some
claim limits are reasonable, but publishers have to be open to
exceptions. That's good business and my experience is that many
publishers are open to doing good business. I also believe that
libraries must be responsible with their claiming. My opinion is that
you have a good reason to be a little late with this claim because it is
a new order.

My library subscribed to a new title begining with the 2005 volume. We
had not received the first two issues, although they were published, so
my claims clerk claimed them. While the publisher will be sending us
the second issue, they will not send us the first unless we pay for the
replacement copy. Does this seem a bit unreasonable, particularly
considering that this is a new subscription and should have started with
the first issue of the 2005 volume? Is this a common occurance?

Trying not to think evil thoughts about a certain publisher...
