SERIALS CATALOGER, The Research Library, Getty Research Institute

Responsibilities: Prepares bibliographic and authority records for scholarly serials and monographic series, in a variety of formats and languages, with an emphasis on electronic resources.  Describes serials as prescribed in AARC2, assigns Library of Congress subject headings and call numbers, prepares name authority records for submission to NACO, may reciprocally revise work within the Section.  Resolves complex bibliographic problems.  Maintains awareness of current national cataloging practice.  Contributes to establishing cataloging policies and procedures within the Serials Section and the Research Library.  Assists in training other Serials Section staff.

Required: ALA-accredited MLS; undergraduate degree in art history or related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; 2-3 years serials cataloging experience; reading knowledge of 1-2 foreign languages; excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational abilities, attention to detail, interpersonal skills, word processing knowledge, and familiarity with the Internet.

Preferred:  Experience cataloging electronic resources; knowledge of AACR2, MARC, LC classification schedules, LCSH, LCRIs, experience with Voyager, Serials Solutions, or other integrated library system or electronic journal management system.
