ELECTRONIC RESOURCES ACQUISITIONS LIBRARIAN Johns Hopkins University The Sheridan Libraries This position offers an opportunity for an innovative, service oriented librarian with strong communications skills to manage the Library's subscription based electronic resources. Responsibilities: Research, analyze, and assess vendor products, aggregators, offers, and services. Collaborate with collection development librarians at various JHU libraries, consortia, publishers, and vendors. Establish trials and pilots as requested by collection development librarians. Provide lead role in negotiating license agreements and coordinating the work of others engaged in the negotiation process, including license review with University Purchasing and Legal Counsel. Communicate with vendors to obtain the best terms and conditions possible. Coordinate troubleshooting of issues relating to access, maintenance, payment, and other performance matters related to electronic resource procurement. Design workflow, streamline processes, establish and document procedures to acquire resources, process changes, and renew subscriptions. Ensure the quality and integrity of the acquisition, electronic resources management, and serials control modules of the Horizon integrated library system. Coordinate public access to electronic journals through support and maintenance of link resolver software (i.e., SFX). Implement and manage the Electronic Resource Management module and related applications. Create and maintain statistical reports for the Libraries' electronic resources. Oversee the expenditure of over $3,000,000 for electronic resources in collaboration with collection development staff and the various library financial units. Maintain current awareness of information tools and technology in order to meet the needs of students, faculty, staff, and user community. Collaborate with other technical services managers to coordinate policies, procedures, and workflows. Reports to the Coordinator of Serials and Electronic Resources Acquisitions. Qualifications Required: ALA-accredited MLS. Solid experience negotiating and monitoring licensing agreements for electronic resources. Demonstrated experience working with vendors of information resources and the publishing industry. Knowledge of evolving scholarly publication models and acquisitions business practices, including copyright, Intellectual Property, and licensing terms/issues in a networked environment. Knowledge of link resolver software and electronic resource management systems. Demonstrated experience in budget management. Experience with an integrated library system and a bibliographic utility (OCLC or RLIN). Effective interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills essential. Solid organizational skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Commitment to using technology to help advance work goals and to enhancing service through teamwork and proactive approaches. Ability to balance priorities, meet deadlines and to prioritize work to ensure that departmental and library goals are realized. Flexibility and initiative in carrying out assignments in a changing environment. Commitment to professional growth and development. Preferred: Three or more years of electronic resources experience in a large academic or public library. The Sheridan Libraries encompass the Milton S.
