Hennepin County Library's (HCL) 2005 cataloging statistics are mounting
as we reach the last quarter of the year. In 2004, eight staff cataloged
25,987 new print titles and 5,180 new AV items. This level is expected
to be met in 2005 and increase in 2006 and beyond.

To optimize HCL's ability to uphold it's proud public library tradition
of meeting the diverse material (books, audios, videos, DVD's, CD's,
etc.) needs of our customers, we are seeking a full-time Cataloging
Librarian. This Librarian will join a team of catalogers in Technical
Services to prepare original and copy catalog records for a wide variety
of materials including materials in multiple formats and languages.

The primary duties/ responsibilities of this position include:
*	Cataloging a wide variety of materials at both the copy
cataloging and original cataloging levels
*	Cataloging materials in one or more of the following areas of
expertise: serials, recorded music, electronic resources, or non English
language materials
*	Utilizing library cataloging and communication exchange
standards - AACR2, LCSH, DDC, MARC, XML, Z39.50
*	Participating in the implementation and management of an
automated authority control system
*	Resolving complex problems related to input and correction of
bibliographic records
*	Pursuing professional development by attending meetings and
workshops to maintain current knowledge of developments in librarianship

To qualify for this position you must have:
*	An ALA (American Library Association) accredited Master's degree
in Library Science or Information Science
The Ideal candidate will have:
*	One year of cataloging experience including authority work
*	Experience working with OCLC Connexion and the Horizon
integrated library system
*	Knowledge of methods for accessing library collections such as
FRBR, federated searching, Open URL linking, etc.
*	Strong organizational, planning, and problem solving skills
*	Talent with written and verbal communication
