Scripting username/password access James Buczynski 14 Nov 2005 15:03 UTC

Many stand alone subscription ebooks and ejournals are only accessible
by username and password (no registered IP range access). Are there
technical solutions (scripting?) that provide the end user with seamless
access to the resource? Once authenticated, they are presented with a
URL that logs them into the resource. The username and password is
passed to the vendor "behind the scenes" (via screen scraping?). The
user never sees the username and password in this scenario.

We really don't want to go down the "pop-up screen" route whereby the
user is given the username and password to the resource in a pop-up
browser window, after authenticating.

I'm interested in solutions to this access/acquisitions barrier.

Thank-you,

James
