Wall Street Journal Marynelle Chew 27 Jan 2006 18:46 UTC

I have tried for over a year to puchase access to WSJOnline for our
campus. I have yet to speak to someone who could help me. I get
transferred and transferred and then told, 'oh, we'll pass this on to
XYZ department & they'll call you back.' NOT! I have also emailed
several times and always get back a canned response and no one responds
to my direct queries.

The long and short of it is, while you can purchase a site license in
blocks of 50, with 100 as the starting point, it's still tied to
individual users with logins. This is not acceptable to us. We have a
small school of business, less than 500 students, and if I purchased 100
simultaneous users, I sincerely doubt we'd ever go over that. Yet, they
don't want to sell it to us because they want it tied to individual
users.

We also get WSJ through ProQuest, but there are more features on
WSJOnline that my faculty wanted.

Heck of a way to do business for a business journal. I guess they
don't want my money.

Hello,

Do you get the Wall Street Journal in full text electronically, with
access through IP recognition? (None of this "Wall Street Journal
Abstracts"! We're looking for the full text.) When I called they said
the only way to get it electronically was through a subscription, but
that it was highly personalized for a single user. On top of that, the
access is through username/password, not IP recognition.=20

Is this really true? Please tell me how you provide this to your
students. We currently subscribe, but I don't have room to archive
more
than a few months.

Thank you.

We get IP access to articles through ProQuest, which covers 1982 to =

online edition from wsj.com, but you get the content. Hope that helps.

You can get it through IP recognition but it's expensive.

In Connecticut, courtesy of the iCONN Digital Library and iCONN

there
is something available in Pennsylvania.

Proquest sells the Wall Street Journal in full text. We don't buy it
here, but we do buy the New York Times and our local newspaper from
them. There's info about WSJ on their site

We have used xenu to check serials. The secret to using it was
extracting the files from our catalog with a report and then running
them through a "mail2text" program that kept the "links alive". I
haven't run it for quite some time.

We spent some time hunting to find the right programs to get it to
work. (So you might have to invest some time rather than money).
It is fast and does work. However, it only shows the links work, not
that they are going to the correct location!

E-mail me directly if you have any specific questions.

I was curious if anyone has either purchased or tried a free link

Interesting. We have access to Wall Street Journal online, with IP
recognition, from two sources: 1) Proquest and 2) as a part of a
database
subscription to EBSCOhost Academic Elite. I am surprised you are
having a
problem. Of course, I did not go direct to the publisher. Good luck.
