Re: Tier pricing van Sickle, Jennifer 07 Mar 2006 20:22 UTC

There are several publishers that charge by Carnegie classification, and
we had to provide our FTE for Nature and Science online, since the
pricing is separate for the online version.

Subject: [SERIALST] Tier pricing

I have received a message from our vendor that a publisher wishes to
institute tier pricing for 2007. They are gathering statistics
regarding our student FTE and the faculty FTE. The journal in question
is a print plus online publication and the vendor did not say if the
publication will be separated for 2007.

I understand that tier pricing is usual for databases, but I have not
run into it for titles (other than the difference between personal and
institutional subscriptions.) What do you think of this?

A probably irrelevant question also occurs: Why is the publisher not
gathering their own statistics? Our vendor doesn't consistently answer
our own needs so I also don't understand why they would take it on.

Comments welcome.
