I am thinking of having the cataloger catalog them and then creating a copy record that just indicates we have the most recent two weeks. That way people searching the catalog would at least know we have them. We do check the papers in and we also use Millennium. I am now rethinking why we actually do check them in, since I read the email from Annette. That is a good question and I might decide to stop in light of this. :-) Shelley *************************************** Shelley Rubatino Serials Technician Seattle Pacific University Library 206-281-2791 rubats@spu.edu **************************************** (3)----------------- Date: Tue, 9 May 2006 14:15:38 -0600 From: Jennifer O'Brien <jobrien@jefferson.lib.co.us> Subject: RE: [SERIALST] daily newspapers We currently check-in all newspapers, using our ILS. Staff check-in serials on a daily basis - newspapers do not increase this work by any sizable amount (that we have noticed). We have found checking-in our newspapers helps greatly with claims issues. We do, however, have decentralized delivery of our serials [to our branches], and many different staff are checking-in the newspapers. Maintaining electronic records makes it easier for us in Serials and Acquisitions to keep an eye on the subscriptions.
