Cambridge University Press acquires CABI Journals
Cambridge University Press and CABI are pleased to announce the
acquisition by Cambridge University Press of the CABI primary journals
list, consisting of 15 titles either owned or published by CABI on behalf
of various Learned Societies. The CABI list expands and complements
Cambridge University Press?s existing journals portfolio of over 200
academic and professional journals and significantly builds its collection
in the life sciences.
Cambridge will continue to publish the CABI list with current editors and
Societies with effect from 1st July 2006.
Andrew Brown, Academic Publishing Director at Cambridge University Press
said:
?We are delighted to be taking on the CABI list of very high quality
journals as part of our developing journals publishing program. This is a
major development for both Cambridge and CABI, and a resounding
reinforcement of the aims and ideals of not-for-profit publishing.?
Caroline McNamara, Executive Commercial Director at CABI said:
?This sale reflects CABI?s newly refocused strategic direction, based upon
our decision to strengthen our position as a publisher of world-leading
database products and high quality books and reference works."
For Cambridge this acquisition demonstrates an ongoing and accelerating
commitment to STM Journals publishing. The future will see continued
emphasis on building an even stronger STM list to compliment the
world-leading HSS Journals list already published by Cambridge.
?As well as exceeding the business and commercial expectations laid down
by CABI, Cambridge University Press was also chosen because it shares
CABI's not-for-profit status and scholarship-friendly principles,? said
Andrea Powell, Executive Director of Publishing at CABI. ?We felt CUP
offered an attractive alternative for our Partner Societies, and we were
also confident that the whole list, including titles owned and developed
by CABI for nearly 100 years, would be in good hands.?
Geoff Nuttall, Journals Editorial Director at Cambridge University Press
said: ?The relocation of the CABI journals to Cambridge is a symbol of the
new ambition and dynamism of journals publishing at Cambridge University
Press. With new systems, resources and a state of the art journals
platform, we are able to offer publishing solutions that are strong and
competitive, but still true to the ideals of Cambridge publishing. We
welcome the CABI journals wholeheartedly and look forward to working
closely with our new colleagues.?
