Re: two journals have same ISSN number? Shannon 21 Jul 2006 18:45 UTC

Thanks everybody for your response to my question. Thanks to Mr. Hong D. Ta
for the contact info of UK ISSN Office he provided. I got a confirmation
from UK ISSN office that the correct ISSN number for Trends in ecology and
evolution (ref. ed.)is 0968-0012. And I also have noticed that the error in
the record (15871932) in OCLC has been fixed. Thanks!

There are two ISSN numbers appeared on the journal of Trends in ecology &
evolution. It is 0169-5374 on earlier issues; 0968-0012 on the later issues.
My guess is that when cataloger updated the record (the title ceased in
1999), she put 0169-5374 in subfield y, but mistakenly added 0968-0055 not
0968-0012 in subfield a.

According to the ISSN database, 0968-0055 has been assigned to:
   Trends in microbiology (Reference ed.)

The ISSN for
Trends in ecology & evolution (Reference ed.)
is 0968-0012

My guess is that the publisher has printed the incorrect ISSN on the pieces,
but don't really know that without pieces in hand.
