Serials and Electronic Resources Cataloger/Unit Head

Oregon State University Libraries seek an innovative and dynamic
librarian at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor Tenure Track for
the position of Serials and Electronic Resources Cataloger. Reporting to
the Head of Technical Services, this position will provide original
cataloging of web resources and serials in all formats; maintain a
high-level knowledge of cataloging standards and practices; be
responsible for the management and effective operation of the Serials
Cataloging Unit (4 FTE); and consult with public services staff to
improve patron access to electronic resources and serials.

As tenure-track faculty members, OSU librarians participate in faculty
governance and university services and engage in research and
professional development by publishing and reporting in professional
journals, presenting at national and regional meetings, and taking a
leadership role in library or academic societies and organizations.

The OSU Libraries enhance and support the university's instructional and
research programs with traditional and innovative services and
collections. The libraries' collections include over 1.5 million printed
volumes and access to over 28,000 electronic and print journals.

OSU is one of only two American universities to hold the Land-, Sea-,
Sun- and Space-Grant designations and is the only Oregon institution
recognized for its "very high research activity" (RU/VH) by the Carnegie
Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.  OSU is comprised of 11
academic colleges with strengths in natural resources, earth dynamics
and sustainability, life sciences, entrepreneurship and the arts and
sciences.  OSU has facilities and/or programs in every county in the
state, including 12 regional experiment stations, 41 county extension
offices, a branch campus in Bend, a major marine science center in
Newport, and a range of programs and facilities in Portland.  OSU is

Qualifications:

Required:  An M.L.S. from an ALA-accredited institution or a foreign
equivalent degree. Minimum of 1-3 years of serials and electronic
resources cataloging experience. Strong technical skills and
problem-solving abilities. Knowledge of and working experience with
AACR2r, LCRIs, MARC formats and Library of Congress subject headings and
classification system. Ability to work independently and
collaboratively. Demonstrated ability to work quickly and accurately in
a service and production-oriented environment. Excellent oral and
written communication skills.

Preferred:  Successful management or supervisory experience.  Knowledge
of and working experience with national serials cataloging standards
(CONSER).  Experience with government documents. Experience with the
Innovative Interfaces integrated library system and OCLC Connexion.
Experience with any of the following metadata standards: Dublin Core,
XML, OAI, MODS or METS. Experience with initiatives to enhance access to
digital resources. Experience with OpenURL protocol and link resolvers.
Experience with electronic resource management and workflow. A
demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.

Employment Conditions:

Full-time, 12 month, annual (Assistant/Associate Professor) tenure track
appointment at a professorial rank commensurate with qualification.
Minimum salary of $40,008 annually plus medical, dental, and life
insurance are available; staff tuition fee privileges for employee or a
dependent at an Oregon University System school (restrictions apply).
This position earns 15 hours of vacation and 8 hours of sick leave each
month.
