Re: Hand-held radios Martha Spicuzza 06 Jul 2006 17:44 UTC

When our students are downstairs shelving, they take a walkie-talkie
with them so we can call them to return to the Circulation Desk. They
are available from Radio Shack (or similar store) for about $30/pair and
have a two mile range.
Not very high tech, but it gets the job done!

I am trying to get that started in our library. I talked with someone
in Florida after viewing his company's web site and he said he has done
it in libraries (as well as restaurants and hospitals). The plain pager
system does not interfere with the computers and costs around $400 plus
a bit more for pagers. I just want the assistants in the stacks to
return when the pager vibrates....

Our periodical display and stacks are located a distance from the desks
of my associate and me. We're thinking of investing in a radio or pager
system that would let us reach one another when one is in the stacks.
Has anyone used such a system that they would recommend?

Thanks,

Mary
