Head of Information Technology/Systems Librarian

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock invites applications for the
position of Head of Information Technology/Systems Librarian, a faculty
appointment with rank, leading to tenure (job #387). The successful
candidate must demonstrate skills in automated library systems and
supervision, as well as a strong commitment to patron services.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: manage, supervise,
coordinate, plan, budget, implement, and service the library's various
information systems operations, including the integrated library system
(Innovative Interfaces), ILLIAD and UniPrint; manage operation of
Instructional Media Services; provide technical expertise, support, and
training for library automation planning and development; coordinate the
training of library staff in the use of information technologies; manage
150 workstations and several servers in a Windows environment; develop
Internet, network and web-based applications; oversee upgrades,
coordinate release documentation and implementation of new features;
supervise 6 FTE and student assistants. Position reports to the Director
of Technical Services and Technology.

Requirements are: ALA-accredited MLS degree; demonstrated evidence of
successful management of computer systems projects and networking;
knowledge of MARC and OCLC record structures. Experience with management
aspects of a library integrated system. Experience with software
products used in libraries. Working knowledge of Windows Server and
UNIX. Demonstrated experience with Illiad software,

Preferred experience include: Experience with client and server side
scripting, ASP, PHP and PERL. Knowledge of programming languages such as
VB or Java. Working knowledge of basic MS Access, MySQL, etc. Working
knowledge of HTML, CSS, XML, internet tools and web authoring. Knowledge
of advances in the application of information technologies to the
library environment. Experience with training or instruction. Strong
oral and written communication skills. Ability to work independently and
in groups. Demonstrated commitment and ability to work effectively with
diverse populations in a collegial environment. For more information;
