Position Vacancy Announcement

Location: University Libraries, University of Memphis

Position: Integrated Library System (ILS) Librarian - Systems Department

Responsibilities: Provides leadership in planning, support, implementation, and utilization of the University Libraries' Integrated Library Management System (ILMS).  Coordinates the work of the ILMS Support Team that will provide
advice and feedback on the ILMS and assist with implementing changes.  Assumes responsibility for the development
and maintenance of the ILMS Web interface.  Prepares reports related to the ILMS, its operation, and implementation.
Maintains good working relationships with the Information Technology Division (ITD) of the University, partner libraries,
the ILMS vendor, and other libraries using the same ILMS.  Serves as a system administrator for appropriate servers,
not limited to the ILMS, supported by the Systems Department.  Participates in the planning, development, and implementation of the services, activities, and projects of the Systems Department.  Serves as subject liaison to
assigned department(s), participates in the User Instruction Program. Provides user assistance at the Research and Information Services (RIS) Desk on a scheduled basis.  Serves on committees and task forces in the libraries, on
campus, and throughout the region. Maintains a program of research, continual learning, and professional service that foster his/her own professional growth and development and that would support tenure and/or promotion.

Reporting Structure: Reports to Department Head, Library Information Systems

               Rank and Salary: Tenure Track, 12 month appointment.  Salary minimum $45,000 per year. Rank Assistant or Associate Professor depending on qualifications.

   Benefits: 24 days vacation/12 days sick leave per year; state paid retirement (State of Tennessee or TIAA-   CREF); group health insurance; tuition remission.

Required Qualifications: ALA-accredited MLS degree.  Second graduate degree is required to be eligible for tenure and promotion. At least one year of post-MLS work experience in a library. Strong technical skills and knowledge of computer operations. Experience working with integrated library management systems.  Familiarity with issues related to ILMS support and use in an academic library. Excellent interpersonal skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Evidence of commitment to quality customer service.  Ability to work independently in a collegial environment.  Evidence of potential to maintain an ongoing program of professional involvement, professional development, and scholarship at levels that would merit tenure and promotion.

Preferred Qualifications: Operating experience with Millennium (III) and its components.  Knowledge and experience with MARC and other metadata schemes and how they relate to and operate in an ILMS.  Experience with using ILMS and MARC fields in report creation and generation.  Programming and/or scripting experience. Experience in public service including user instruction and user assistance.  Experience supervising the work of others.  Work experience in an academic library. Subject expertise in the sciences, technology, or engineering.
