Hi Lilah -- We do exactly as Evalyn describes below as well, and I agree with her comments on the decision. Our catalog records for these titles merely say that the current issue can be found in the reading room. In addition, we have stopped checking in a few selected titles that we keep only temporarily - the New Yorker, Chronicle of higher education, London review of books and a few others. There's been no downside to it at all. These are titles that our patrons just go to look for - they don't look in the catalog to see recent receipts. Items get to the shelves quicker, our patrons are happy, and we waste no time checking in and un-checking in when we discard.
