Head of Resource Development Green Library Florida International University 11200 SW 8th Street Miami, FL 33199 Ph: 305.348.6279 ppicerno@fiu.edu --------------------------------------------------------------------------- *Serials Cataloger* *Florida** International University*** The Green Library of Florida International University is seeking an energetic, service-oriented Serials Cataloger. *Description*: As a member of the Cataloging Department, the Serials Cataloger is responsible for cataloging and processing serials and integrating resources on all subjects and in all formats; takes leadership in applying new approaches to access, such as the batch loading of serial records; and works in collaboration with many colleagues (e.g., the Head of the Authorities and Database Maintenance Unit, members of the Resource Development Department, and the Electronic Information Services Librarian) to ensure the accuracy of both MARC holdings displays and SFX displays. *Required Qualifications*: * MLS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent * Knowledge of serials cataloging using AACR2r, LCRI, LCSH, MARC21 standards (including MARC holdings), CONSER Guidelines and LC classification schedules * Knowledge of OCLC and integrated library management systems (FIU has Aleph) * Knowledge of authority control principles * Effective oral and written communication, including ability to document procedures * Ability to take initiative, work accurately, and follow through effectively and efficiently with all issues and tasks * Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a culturally diverse environment * Commitment to the service mission of the academic library *Desired Qualifications*: * Serials cataloging experience * CONSER training * Knowledge of one or more foreign languages * Experience with loading bibliographical data and with scripting * Knowledge of other metadata schema *Rank/Salary*: Non-tenured faculty status; $40,000-$55,000; rank and salary are competitive based on qualifications and experience. * Benefits: *22 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, TIAA/CREF or other retirement options, health/life insurance options, no state or local income tax.
