The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks a knowledgeable
and service-oriented individual for this core new position which will
lead the newly formed E-Resources & Serials Management (ESM) Department.
The creation of this new department provides exciting opportunities to
influence the future direction of the University Library. The individual
chosen will manage, coordinate, and support the acquisition, processing,
and continued access to electronic resources and serials in support of
user needs and the Library’s goals. The department manages expenditures
of approximately $5,000,000 annually for continuing resources.
The E-Resources & Serials Management Department acquires electronic
resources (including e-journals, databases, and e-books on a
subscription basis), print plus online serials, and print serials. The
ESM Department places the orders, claims outstanding materials, receives
the material or notification of access, and processes invoices for
payment. Ordering includes the negotiation of licenses and business
models with vendors. The ESM Department catalogs and maintains access to
these materials – handling title reconciliation, usage statistics, and
general troubleshooting for electronic resources as well as binding and
maintaining detailed holdings records for print serials.
