Description

In an applied, exercise-based workshop, the Metadata and Digital Library
Development course introduces practicing catalogers to metadata
implementation considerations and processes in a digital library
development context. Course materials explore the following topics:
•     The uses of the digital library
•     Digital consideration for current collections: selection and
collection building
•     Metadata considerations: access, storage, preservation and rights
management
•     Standards issues: metadata and content standards
•     Preservation and archiving
•     Internet and Web technology
•     Planning the digital project

Additional Information

This workshop is part of the “Cataloging for the 21st Century” continuing
education series, which offers practicing catalogers instruction in
bibliographic control practices that will help them continue to play a
significant role in shaping library services in the emerging digital
information environment.  The class participant manual and slides are

Attendees will be provided with a copy of the manual at the workshop.

Registration is limited to 30 people.  The registration fee is $80.00 for
PTPL and/or ALCTS members and $95.00 for non-members.
