SCCTP Advanced Serials Cataloging Workshop
Date: June 24-25, 2010
Time: 8:30 a.m. . 4:30 p.m.
Instructors: Margaret Mering (University of Nebraska-Lincoln Libraries)
Adolfo Tarango (University of California, San Diego)

Description: The Advanced Serials Cataloging Workshop is an in-depth
course on the elements contained in the CONSER standard record (CSR) in
addition to the rules and practices applied to original cataloging of
serials. While the course focuses on printed serials, the instructions are
applicable to serials in any format. This workshop includes no specific
instructions for electronic serials.

Audience: The course is designed for people who have at least taken the
Basic Serials Cataloging Workshop or who have been active serials
catalogers for more than one year and are familiar with MARC serials
tagging and fundamental approaches to serials cataloging.

SCCTP Integrating Resources Cataloging Workshop
Date: June 25, 2010
Time: 8:30 a.m. . 4:30 p.m.
Instructors: Shana L. McDanold (University of Pennsylvania Libraries)
                   Jian Wang (Portland State University)

Description: This course is based on chapter 9, "Electronic
resources," and chapter 12, "Continuing resources," of the Anglo-American
Cataloging Rules (AACR), 2nd edition, 2002 Revision. The course focuses on
cataloging electronic integrating resources with only incidental
information on cataloging loose-leaf integrating resources. The 2010
version has changes that reflect the implementation of code "i," removal
of references to RLG, and some minor changes in examples and in the text.

Audience: This course presumes at least some familiarity with the rules
and practice of cataloging electronic resources, including AACR2 chapter 9
and MARC 21 computer files coding.

SCCTP Serials Holdings Workshop
Date: June 24-25, 2010
Time: 8:30 a.m. . 4:30 p.m.
Instructors: Everett Allgood (New York University)
Wen-ying Lu (University of Colorado at Boulder)

Description: Creating standards-compliant holdings records is a critical
skill in controlling serials in libraries. Attendees will learn to use the
MARC 21 Format for Holdings Data (MFHD) and ANSI/NISO Z39.71 to create
standards-compliant holdings records and publication patterns
data. Attendees will be able to distinguish options for entering holdings
data (i.e., formatted, textual, and publication patterns). The
instructions and exercises are system-neutral, and the course includes
time for discussion of local system implementation.

Audience: The course is designed for those who are new to the MARC 21
Holdings Format, including those who have created holdings records using
other mechanisms (e.g., OCLC's Local Holdings Record). It is designed
primarily for those who will create holdings records but is also useful
for managers and system designers wishing to know more about the format
and its uses.
