Re: JAMA price increase Mina Davenport 13 Oct 2011 17:22 UTC

Hi, I was a little surprised at the AMA and their disregard for their customers (I'm not sure why, that kind of thing seems to be rampant now), but since my institution is wanting the library to go online this was an opportunity for me. I will be paying about the same, a little more. I am also getting Archives of pediatrics and adolescent medicine as a site since we are a pediatric teaching hospital, but will still get the print for that one.

I've never had any problems with access for the most part for any of the AMA titles and we get them all. If I had a claim for a print it came within a week.

I suspect that most libraries will "play the game" because they have to. But it really does leave a bad impression to say the least. I've not complained, because I don't think it will matter. How all of us can do anything about these publishers or medical societies basically holding us hostage I don't know. If I did, I guess I'd be famous, even if it didn't make me rich.

Good morning,

As everyone probably knows, JAMA took away their reasonably priced print + online option. We now have to choose one or the other, and the cost for the online has increased, for us, about 600%. We called JAMA directly, mostly just to let them know that we're unhappy with this, and they basically told us that other libraries "in our situation" are paying the increase.

I'm just wondering if other libraries really are paying, and if so, are any of you making any fuss about it?

Thanks!
Laura
