It seems from the recent discussion on the list about displaying
510 fields that a lot depends on the local system and how this
information displays in the OPAC. It would seem to me that the best
solution would be a default display of a brief record that has title,
call number and holdings with an option to display a full bib record
for those who want or need that information.
My inclination is to let systems vendors know that we have these
problems and that they need to come up with a solution to deal with
them. Automation is great (I really like it, generally) but it's
not yet perfect. Has anyone spoken to vendors or through users
groups to say that we need better systems?
