When I responsed to the question raised this week, I was looking at it
from the "after you've done it, how you organize your workflow" aspect.
Perhaps I misunderstood the intent of the question. I agree with the
subsequent responses that ck in conversion should NOT be an alphabetical
process. Our efforts at UB were directed toward converting those titles
received to avoid a major housekeeping/problem solving effort. We started
slowly, converting only certain portions of the alphabet in the beginning.
We had some rather short deadlines to accomplish the conversion (using
only existing staff), so I pitched in too. There were days where you
didn't feel you accomplished much, but we did the bulk of the "regular"
titles in 2 months (we subscribe to about 8,000+ periodicals). After
about 6-9 months we began to investigate the dregs, and some of the less
frequent titles were still coming in to be converted. We all survived
and so will you!
