Multi-copy subscriptions Joanna Tousley-Escalante 09 Apr 1993 20:41 UTC

Austin Comm. College is a 6 campus College with a central Technical
Services including central serials receipt and management. We continue to
wrestle with the problem of having multiple copy subscriptions that all
need to be delivered to the same address for central checkin and
processing. This has again become a sticky problem as we are moving onto
the Dynix Serials Module. For claiming purposes, how do we distinguish
the copy that is being claimed to both our vendor and to the publisher?

The only handle I can see is the @#)(*$ stupid form of our ship-to address
that is used for each separate copy we receive. For clarity: Ebsco has
worked with us to set up a separate version of our ship-to address for
each copy. We have no multi-copy subscriptions with Ebsco. When we tried
to renew 6 copies for 1 year each we always ended up with 1 copy for 6
years before we started using this crazy ship-to scheme.

Does anyone have any better ideas out there for ordering and handling
multi-copy subscriptions that are delivered to a central serials unit?
Has anyone been able to develop a better scheme? Do you have suggestions
for what is the most important information to communicate in a claim to
both the vendor and the publisher? I'll certainly appreciate your
responses.

                                     Cordially,
                                     Joanna Tousley-Escalante
