We are just starting to enter records on our automated serials system
(Geac Advance) and have developed several claim cycles, but each
periodical must be decided on its own history.

Generally, a 30 day claim cycle would wait 30 days after an issue is due
to issue a 1st claim, another 30 days for the 2nd claim, and a final 30
days for the last claim (we can have up to 4 claims per cycle).
Similarly, for a weekly, we would wait at least 7 days for the 1st claim,
another 7 for the 2nd, etc. When the frequency is more frequent then
weekly, it gets difficult, because you have to allow some time for the
publisher to reply and for the snail mail.

The best way to decide is to ask the person who writes the claim letters
what sort of claim cycles make the best sense to him/her?
