Editor's note:

CITATIONS FOR SERIAL LITERATURE was created in February 1992 with a
threefold purpose: to identify literature related to the serial
information chain, to disseminate this information in a timely manner,
and to create an index in this field with electronic searching
capabilities. To achieve these goals, CITATIONS FOR SERIAL LITERATURE
publishes table of contents, and abstracts when they are available, for
a variety of journals which address issues of concern to serials
librarians, vendors and publishers.

Complete table of contents are included for the following titles:
        Advances in Serials Management
        NASIG Newsletter
        Newsletter on Serials Pricing Issues
Serials: The Journal of the United Kingdom Serials Group
        Serials Review
In addition, selective table of contents are included for the following titles:
Issues in Science and Technology Librarianship
        Library Acquisitions: Practice and Theory

This index is distributed to subscribers via email. Complete
subscription information is listed at the end of this issue. A partial
archive is publicly available from LISTSERV@MITVMA. This partial
archive includes all of the current volume's issue and all of the last
volume's issue. Earlier volumes have been purged from the LISTSERV
archive. Users may retrieve individual issues of the index or perform
database searches using LDBASE. To retrieve the index for CITATIONS FOR
SERIAL LITERATURE, send a message to LISTSERV@MITVMA that reads: index
sercites. To retrieve a specific issue, send a message to
LISTSERV@MITVMA that reads: get sercites <filetype> where <filetype> is
the coded issue number. For example, to retrieve Volume 2, no. 1 of
CITATIONS FOR SERIAL LITERATURE, send a message to LISTSERV@MITVMA that
reads: get sercites 93-00001. For more information on using LDBASE to
search any LISTSERV archives, send a message to LISTSERV@MITVMA that
reads: info database. Additionally, CITATIONS FOR SERIAL LITERATURE is
available in an experimental Gopher at North Carolina State University
(dewey.lib.ncsu.edu, port 70) and in the CICNet gopher (gopher.cic.net,
port 70).

As the editor of CITATIONS FOR SERIAL LITERATURE, I am always interested
in hearing users' comments and suggestions about this project. It is
also my intention to continue to expand the number of titles included in
this index. Editors and publishers interested in participating and
users interested in commenting on this project are encouraged to contact
me <mgeller@mit.edu>.

CITATIONS FOR SERIAL LITERATURE is an electronic index which publishes
the table of contents and abstracts, when available, for articles
related to the serials information chain. It is NOT an electronic
discussion list. All complete and selective table of contents materials
in CITATIONS FOR SERIAL LITERATURE are reproduced with the permission of
the original publisher. The section of this index entitled
"Serendipitous citings" includes relevant citations from journals not
generally listed here. These citations are contributed by users.

It is the intention of the editor to expand the number of journals
included in this database. Editors and publishers interested in
participating in this project should contact the editor at
sercites@mitvma.mit.edu or mgeller@mit.edu to discuss the possibility.
To subscribe, send a message to LISTSERV@MITVMA or
