This position also manages the ordering, receipt and preparation of current monographic, serial and electronic resources as well as binding activities. Supervises 3.5 FTE technicians. POSITION OPEN DIRECTOR OF TECHNICAL SERVICES RESPONSIBILITIES: The Libraries seek a director of technical services to provide creative leadership in coordinating the division's policies and operations to meet the challenge of increasing productivity. The technical services division includes the Catalog Dept., Serials Dept., and Acquisitions Dept., with a total of 23 FTE staff. The director will supervise the Head of Serials/Acquisitions, and will serve also as head of the Catalog Dept., supervising 3 FTE catalog librarians and the supervisor of the Copy Cataloging Unit. Reporting to the Dean of Libraries, the director will represent the division to the library administration, and will actively collaborate with the directors of library systems, public services, and collection development in furthering the Libraries' mission and goals. QUALIFICATIONS: ALA/MLS. Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible post- MLS experience in the technical services area, with at least 2 years of cataloging experience in a university library. Thorough understanding of national cataloging standards, bibliographic record structures, issues and trends in technical services operation. Demonstrated administrative, planning, leadership, analytic, interpersonal and communication skills. Experience with OCLC and a local online system; familiarity with the use of microcomputers. Record of initiative and achievement in fostering and implementing change in a highly automated technical services environment is preferred. Librarians have the privileges and responsibilities of tenure- track faculty status and hold ranks equivalent to assistant, associate, or full professor. A record of active involvement in professional associations, and evidence of research or creative achievement are highly desirable. SALARY: Open, depending upon qualifications and experience (min. mid-$40s for 12-month contract).
