Community and Campus Wide Information Systems to be LAMA preconference

      "Community and Campus Wide Information Systems:  Opportunities for
Improving Service to Library Users," will be presented on Friday, June 24,
1994, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., as a preconference to the American Library
Association (ALA) Annual Conference in Miami Beach.  The deadline for
registration is June 3.

      Wide area networks are profoundly affecting the way information is used
in communities and on campus.  This preconference is designed to assist
librarians and staff in all types of libraries to manage this important new
tool to expand and improve library service.

      Speakers will discuss the state of community and campus wide
information systems, review the technological underpinnings and
technopolitical environment, explore the new partnership with computing
information services, consider the potential of these new tools to change
the structure of organizations, and postulate the future of
librarianship in an environment of widely available shared electronic
resources.
