POSITION TITLE:                 Information Technology  Librarian

TYPE:                           Full time 12 month library faculty
                                Tenure track

LEVEL OF APPOINTMENT:           Assistant Professor

RESPONSIBLE TO:                 Director of  Library Technology Development

A service-oriented professional is being sought to continue the
development of electronic information technology services at the
University of New Mexico General Library.  EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE-
REQUIRED:   Master's Degree in Library Science from an American Library
Association accredited program. Minimum of 5 years relevant post- M.L.S.
experience.  Work experience with online integrated library systems,
wide-area or campus networks, the Internet, and electronic resource
sharing.    Demonstrated training, presentation, and documentation
skills. Demonstrated supervisory experience.  Superior written and oral
communication skills.    DESIRABLE:  Experience with INNOPAC, MARC,
Mosaic, WWW, SGML, HTML, LAN's and the ability to work  effectively with
people in an academic/major research library. A broad range of experience
in technical and public services as well as collection management. Record
of professional service and publications.

RESPONSIBILITIES:    Serves as liaison with Public Service staff/faculty
including  Library Instruction teams, Collection Development
coordinators, Reference staff, and the Computer Center staff to design
orientation and training sessions for staff, faculty and students on
accessing Internet-based databases/files and on using networking tools.
Works in a team environment and supervises the  Information Technology
Team of the Library Technology Development  Department.   Maintains and
develops systems documentation for users. Provides technical support to
staff of the UNMGL for information technology  on a variety of special
projects.  Keeps abreast of new products, trends, and developments in
computer and information technologies. Disseminates relevant information
to appropriate teams and committees. Works with Library Development
Officer to prepare Systems related grant applications.     Serves on
appropriate committees.

BACKGROUND:  The General Library, with a collection of over 1,500,000
volumes, is a member of the Association of Research Libraries and the
AMIGOS bibliographic utility.  The General Library consists of four
libraries and two centers:  Zimmerman, Social Sciences, Humanities, and
Education Library,  Fine Arts Library, Parish Memorial Business Library
, Centennial Science and Engineering Library, Center for Academic
Program Support, and Center for Southwest Research.  The library utilizes
the Innovative Interfaces, Inc. online catalog, circulation, reserve
room, serials control, and acquisitions modules, as well as enhanced
features for Z39.50, Gateways, Reference Databases, and Spanish Language
Menus. The online catalog, LIBROS, includes records from consortium
member libraries: UNM General Library, UNM Law Library, New Mexico Tech
Library, and Albuquerque Planning Library.  The General Library is
administered by the Dean, Associate Dean, and the Library Management Team
which also includes the directors of the branch libraries and the heads
of  library departments.  The Team makes broad operational, personnel,
and budgetary  decisions while leaving considerable latitude to
department heads in managing their departments. The Library Technology
Development Department consists of two teams: Information Technology and
Resource Technology. The University of New Mexico main campus has an
enrollment of more than 25,000 students and employs more than 1,400
faculty and 3,800 staff.  The institution serves a multi-cultural state
and the student body is one of the most ethnically diverse in the nation.
UNM offers 54 masters' degrees and 35 doctoral and professional degrees.

FACULTY RESPONSIBILITIES:  As a tenure-track faculty member, the
incumbent in the position will comply with the policies of the Faculty
Handbook, including research, publication, and service to the profession,
the university, and the community.

SALARY:  Negotiable from $35,000  based on qualifications.
