Re: Binding of theses Joe Edelen, University of South Dakota 08 Oct 1994 01:02 UTC

Hi Fran,

We were doing that for many years, and about 5 or so years ago changed the
rules so that we still get all copies from the graduate office but it is
understood that it is their responsibility to make sure that all pages are
there and that they are all in order before we get them.

We send a copy to UMI for filming (Ed.D and Ph.Ds only) and the rest to the
bindery. When the copies return from the binder (I believe we do 5 of each
title), we keep out 2 and send the other three back to the graduate office (I
believe 1 goes to the student, 1 to the graduate office and 1 to the
department--could be we do only 4 and there is not one for the graduate
office). We pay either only for the 2 we keep or, and I think this may be the
case, none of them.

Students that want to have more copies bound for themselves bring them to us
and pay in advance (then pick them up or, for afee, we will mail them to them).
We have developed a form that we use for this service.
