                      POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
                SERIALS & ACQUISITIONS LIBRARIAN

This position is responsible for serials and acquisitions functions and for
collection development support. In addition the position teams with the
catalog librarian in managing  technical services and participates with
other librarians in the library's management team.

Duties: * Responsible for overseeing daily activities in serials. This
includes supervising  Library Assistant for Serials, who sorts and
distributes mail, checks in continuations, claims materials not received,
and processes periodicals for binding. Oversee and participate as
necessary in stack maintenance of serials, ensuring that superseded
materials are removed promptly and that shifting is done as necessary.
Also included will be overseeing implementation of Dynix serials module
which is currently in progress.
     * Responsible for overseeing daily activities in acquisitions. This
includes supervising Library Assistant For Acquisitions/Accounts, who
orders library materials, receives ordered materials, processes invoices
for payment, and  maintains fund accounting system. Also included will be
planning for and implementation of installation of  Dynix acquisitions
module for our integrated system will occur within the next year.
     * Responsible for collection development support, including vendor
relations, collection evaluation, development of procedures to implement
new collection development policy.
     * Works with Director to coordinate budget management.
     * Serves as contact and internal coordinator for U.S. documents
depository.
     * Cooperates and coordinates with Catalog Librarian in the
management of the   technical services department.
     * Serves as part of management team for library with other
librarians.
     * Performs some reference service, including some evening and
Saturday hours.
     * Serves on consortium committees as assigned.

Qualifications: MLS from ALA accredited library school required.  At least 3
years relevant professional experience. Familiarity with MARC formats,
automated serials and acquisitions system. Must have strong supervisory
skills, commitment to service, and ability to work in team environment.

Compensation: Salary commensurate with qualifications. Excellent benefits
