Questions re: Ameritech's HORIZON system Di Neumeister 13 Dec 1994 21:16 UTC

THIS HAS ALSO BEEN SENT TO MARQUIS. I APOLOGIZE FOR ANY DUPLICATION.

We're in the process of implementing Horizon (live on Thursday, if all goes
well!) and I have a questions I need answered ASAP.

PLEASE REPLY DIRECTLY TO ME, NOT TO THE LIST.

1. SERIAL RENEWALS
How is your library handling serials renewals (work flow)? Does
this represent a change from the way serials renewals were handled before
Horizon?
        For example:
--Does someone in Serials okay the renewal and then send it to
Acquisitions for processing through the Acq system on Horizon?
--Does Acquisitions handle all renewals without input from Serials?
--Does Serials handle serial renewals on Horizon while acquisitions
                handles book orders, etc.?

2. STANDING ORDERS, ESPECIALLY MONOGRAPHS
How do you keep track of standing orders, especially monographs, on Horizon?
Does the method you use allow the system to generate claims if a volume in
a monographic series is late in arriving? Does Serials handle initial
processing? Acquisitions? (I'm assuming monographs eventually go to
cataloging).

Two examples from our collection: *Scientific American Library* on S.O. and
the *Oxford Shakespeare Series* on S.O.. Each volume of these series is
cataloged separately so there is no Bib. record for either series which
could be sent to Serial Control as the basis for a copy record.
Acquisitions would appear to have the same problem in keeping track of the
series.

3. BINDING
Can binding be handled partially on line? I'd like to at least be able to
generate work slips for issues to be pulled and I'd like the PAC to show "at
bindery" when issues are at the bindery. Of course, I'd prefer to have the
system tell me when volumes are complete and ready to bind and automatically
generate the work slip, but I haven't seen any indication that this is
possible.

AGAIN, PLEASE REPLY DIRECTLY TO ME, NOT TO THE LIST.

Thanks for any help you can give me!
