This is how we handle Biochimica et Biophysica Acta.

We continue to have only 1 bib record, with linking 246's.

We are just beginning to use NOTIS LSER for check-in. We have set up
dummy bib records (just 903 ISSN & 924 title), suppressed from the OPAC.
We are setting up receiving patterns for each individual title in LSER,
since the vols. for the various sub-titles are issued in consecutive
numbers. The patterns will only last for a calendar year, however,
and then need to be changed.

In the past, we claimed through SC-10, but we will now claim through
the regular NOTIS claiming process. This will mean that claims will
be generated from the master payment record, attached to the bib
record for the main title.

This does not seem to have caused any problems for patrons; most
citations seem to have enough information to enable the users to
locate the needed articles. And this is in a medical library
environment, where the patrson can be _very_ demanding.

Hope this helps.

Subject: RE: BBA = Biochimica et Biophysica Acta

BBA caused many discussions and headaches when we went online in 1990.
What I did was use the 'generic' OCLC #1536398 bib record, and created separate
checkin records for each of the 10 sections, using the title of the
section as the Identity field. This was necessary as each section has
it's own publication schedule to ease claiming.

I then created a checkin record to cover volume numbers ONLY. When the
first issue of a volume arrives, I change the status to 'Partial.' When
the entire volume is arrived, I change the status to 'Arrived.' This
record is used for binding purposes.

Thanks to the beauty of cut and paste in Windows, below my sig are screen
prints of what I've done. I hope this helps.
