Accompanying software on standing order title(s) John Harrison (602)523-6856 19 Jan 1995 02:06 UTC

My question is similar to one recently posted by Barbara Swetman regarding
CD-ROM's in a shrinkwrap license envelope.

We just received on standing order no. 95 in Springer's _Lecture Notes in
Statistics_ series. There is a diskette "packaged" with the volume. Our
library, as others do, has procedures in place to deal with cataloging of
accompanying material but, to my knowledge, this is the first time a diskette
accompanying a title on standing order has been sealed in an envelope with a
shrinkwrap-type license statement printed on the outside.

My question: Since our purchase arrangement is for a standing order for paper
volumes, does our library have any obligation to treat an accompanying diskette
with the "warning label" any differently than one without (just in an envelope
or pocket)?
