Re: Seminar at RBMS 1995

In preparation for the Seminar on Rare Serials Cataloging: Issues
and Nightmares, to be held at the 1995 RBMS pre-conference in
Bloomington, Indiana, June 20-23, I am soliciting messages of
interest, and suggestions for topics of concern to be discussed
at the Seminar.

If anyone has now, has had in the past, or expects to have,
difficulties in reconciling rare serials cataloging with
CONSER, AACR2, the RI's, the DCRB appendix and/or local special
collections needs, I would like to hear from you! These concerns
may be related to original or re-con cataloging, and to modern as
well as pre-1801 or 19th century materials--the operative word here
is RARE. Some problems that we may share include issues relating
to title changes, uniform titles, linking serials, different formats
as well as conflicts with rules for description. Please include
examples that you believe are particularly thorny or may be of
general interest. I would like to see a title page/masthead copy
that could be reproduced for distribution, as well as the solution
you came up with as a cataloger (or didn't come up with, as the
case may be.

I can be reached via e-mail <bm.esx@rlg.stanford.edu>
FAX: 909-787-3285, to J.McLaren, CBSR, or phone: 909-787-5841. The
snail mail address here is: CBSR, Library-016, U. Calif-Riverside,
Riverside, CA 92521-0154. Please send me responses by 25 April at
the latest. This will give the seminar committee time to evaluate
them in terms of the overall discussion, and time to duplicate
copies for those attending. Thank you! jm
