Judy,

We send out a binding shipment every two weeks (and it comes back in another
two weeks; one week processing time = net off-the-shelf time of 3 weeks). We
have our checkin cards set up for a delay of one issue. Some titles we do not
bind until interims because of heavy use, including abstracts and indexes, and
some titles at our Periodicals Desk.

We also have a multi-institution binding contract with an out-of-state
bindery.

I have not heard many complaints about the binding time, and I think the
two-week turnaround makes the difference. Our previous bindery provided, like
your current bindery, a 4-week turnaround, and with procedures as established
at that time, the materials stayed off the shelves for about 6 weeks. Changes
in binderies and in local procedures have cut that in half.
