Another claiming question Steve Murden 03 Oct 1995 20:22 UTC

Since the woes of claiming are being discussed, it brought this one
to mind. I was handling mail for one of my staff who was on
vacation. I came across a postcard response to a claim and it's
one that I've seen many times before. It comes from Boulder, CO,
and must be from a fullfillment house. The text basically says
something like "thanks for the claim; please let us know exactly
which issues are missing." Well, our claims, generated from NOTIS,
_already told them_ exactly what issues are missing. Anybody else
have similar experiences? I've never tracked our fill rate for
these titles, but I suspect that it's not very high. By the time
we send them a second claim, I suspect that many of the issues are
the infamous out-of-print. Any sense of whether or not this is
simply a delaying action to avoid filling claims? Or am I just
being excessively cynical these days?
