Subject: serials/monographs budget ratio (Kendra Sikop)

Our university has a student population of about 1200, and a library
collection of approximately 57,000 volumes.

>We would appreciate any help with the following questions:
>
>1. What percentage of the acquisition's budget is spent on serials in
>other small (3,000) academic libraries?

currently about 90%

>2. Do other academic institutions accept requests for new journals
>anytime during the year or only at scheduled intervals?

We take requests during the year, but we usually can only order new
subscriptions at the beginning of the fiscal year when we make our decisions
on which subscriptions to keep and which to cut; once the budget for the
year is set, we don't have any room to play around with it.
>
>3. Do other academic libraries limit journal ordering per bibliographer
>by number or by dollar amount?

We don't really have bibliographers so this doesn't apply to us.
>
>Thanks in advance for your advice!!!!!!!!!!!!
