HEAD ACQUISITIONS LIBRARIAN Faculty rank, tenure-track position (Assistant or Associate Professor) in the Henderson Library of Georgia Southern University. Acquisitions Department includes two FTE librarians, eight support staff, and several student employees. Serials section within department is responsible for serials acquisitions, cataloging, and control. Library employs 20 librarians and 39 support staff. Collections include almost 500,000 volumes, over 500,000 government documents, and over 3500 current serial subscriptions. Library utilizes the DRA automation system, and has a local area network with access to the Georgia Statewide Library System, approximately 40 CD-ROM databases, over 50 remote databases, and full resources of Internet. Library maintains a home page at http://www.lib.gasou.edu. Position includes managing all activities of the Acquisitions Department in a highly automated environment; ensuring accurate and efficient acquisitions procedures for monographs, serials, binding operations, foreign materials, and gifts and exchange materials; providing general fiscal accountability for the acquisitions budget and special funds; coordinating collection development; managing several approval plans; and overseeing effective use of the DRA acquisitions module. ALA-accredited MLS; at least five years increasingly responsible library experience; detailed knowledge of at least one national bibliographic system (e.g., OCLC, RLIN) and a nationally recognized automated integrated library system (e.g., DRA, NOTIS) for serials and/or acquisitions; thorough understanding of publishing and library acquisitions issues; successful supervisory and management experience; accounting and/or fund management experience; and ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, are required. Collection development experience preferred. Finalists will be expected to make a formal presentation during the on-site interview. Salary and rank dependent upon qualifications. 12-month appointment.
