EMORY UNIVERSITY General Libraries POSITION: Serials/Special Formats Cataloger AVAILABLE: January 1996 Emory University's General Libraries seek a Catalog Librarian who is eager to participate in the accomplishment of the following goal from the library strategic plan: "Provide quality services that facilitate user access to a broad spectrum of locally maintained and networked information sources." A new facility, soon to be under construction, will enhance the opportunity for innovative approaches to the use of information technology and the development of services for the scholarly community in the elec tronic environment. RESPONSIBILITIES: Within the context of a changing environment, the person in this position will catalog material of a serial nature in all formats; resolve cataloging problems and perform database maintenance in SIRSI's Unicorn system, the Emory Libraries' integrated library system; train and supervise staff in the Serials Cataloging Unit; develop and apply local cataloging practices; and represent the Serials Department in a wide variety of forums from the local to the national level. QUALIFICATIONS: MLS from an ALA accredited program; 2 years serials cataloging experience required and experience cataloging electronic text files, machine readable data files, Internet resources, and other special formats preferred; experience with AACR 2, LCSH, LC classification , and OCLC; experience with a local integrated library system required and experience with SIRSI preferred; knowledge of at least one foreign language; demonstrated verbal and written communication skills; demonstrated ability to work well both cooperatively and independently in a rapidly changing environment; demonstrated interest in professional activities preferred. ENVIRONMENT: Catalogers at Emory work in a Windows environment to utilize OCLC, Unicorn, and other tools at the desktop. The General Libraries participate in NACO. This position resides in the Serials Department which is part of the Collections and Tec hnical Services Division; other departments in the Division include: Collection Management, Acquisitions and Cataloging. The Serials Department is comprised of three units: Receiving, Cataloging and Processing and employs 8.5 FTE staff. EMORY LIBRARIES: The libraries of Emory University hold 2.3 million volumes and employ a total of 263 FTE. In addition to the General Libraries, there are libraries for health sciences, law, theology, and Oxford College. All libraries share the SIRSI Unicorn integrated library system. The Emory Libraries are members of the Association of Research Libraries, OCLC, the Research Libraries Group, the Center for Research Libraries, the Coalition for Networked Information, the National Digital Library Federation, the University Center in Georgia, and SOLINET. SALARY AND BENEFITS: Salary and rank dependent upon qualifications and experience: Librarian I $27,000-31,000; Librarian II $31,000-39,500.
