Re: Horizon Serials Control: call number & holdings displays John Mead 28 Jun 1996 22:14 UTC

To clarify for all of you who work with Horizon: If I pull up a record in
the OPAC module for which there is no copy record, the message displayed
in the call number field is "No copies for this title at any location".
If, on the other hand, I pull up a record for which I have created a copy
record, the following message appears, "For specific location and call#
see holdings information below."

Prior to upgrading from Horizon 3.1, the call number field displayed the
assigned call number, and the collection it was stored in; it also
included the local holdings information in the displayed record. Since
the upgrade, it no longer displays the local holdings information in the
record, nor the call number or location. In other word, the message
LIES. This makes us look incompetent. I do not appreciate an "upgrade"
which makes me look bad.

We are awaiting a response from Ameritech. I thought that I should
mention this to the greater serials community, as many serials librarians
work in closed departments and don't have reason to pull up records in
pac which they have already entered. I am interested in seeing if this
is a local glitch, or if this is more widespread; that there is now a
message saying that the information is in the record proper implies that
they deliberately changed the record display overlay, and it looks like
they may have done so in an incomplete fashion.
