The potential role of program accreditation agencies in an
academic library's selection of full-text databases as an
alternative to print indexes appears to be relatively
insignificant. The one response I got from the list and my
look at the literature (there isn't much on this topic) indicate
that as long as alternatives to print journals meet the needs
of researchers and are part of an articulated plan, the
accreditation agencies will be satisfied.

==================
While the above may well be true for the regional accrediting
agencies that accredit the entire college or university, I'd NOT
assume the same regarding departmental or professional
associations that accredit those subdivisions of the college.
The American Chemical Society has some very specific
requirements regarding journals, indexes, etc, and I believe
some others do too. The ACS MAY have changed a bit
since I last saw them, but I'd be surprised, since many of us
have thought that the ACS requirements were VERY self
serving, as in requiring almost every journal that ACS
published, etc. (Note: ACS journals are generally important
journals, but probably not as important as the publisher
thinks.)
