Re: Grant money for collection building Vicki Combs 25 Sep 1996 21:33 UTC

We have 2 mini-grants that pay for certain magazine subscription within their
area. We were given suggestions of titles to choose from. One is a blues
minigrant and 1 is an earth science minigrant.

For awhile, one of the community colleges was providing a few titles through
their (& ours) subscription agency. That is discontinued at the moment.

We also have a few (2-4 maybe) subscriptions that are gifts from patrons.

Along those lines, I believe Ebsco has a program for donors to order
magazines or pay for magazines for libraries.

Obviously, there are some strings attached for the gifts and grants. If we
are lucky, the patron asks first if we want a certain title. But not always.
Hopefully the publisher notifies us that a gift sub has been paid for--but
not always either.

Some publishers give a 1 year gift sub. Mainly because they hope you will
continue it the next year & pay for it.
