Biological abstracts -paper/online dilemma -Reply Carol Morse 22 Oct 1996 18:13 UTC

My understanding is that First Search includes only a partial set of the
information in the print edition of all the indexed represented. I doubt
if it is a viable replacement for the paper. I would hesitate to toss it.

I was wondering if those of you who have delt with the paper/online
index dilemma would share your experiences and advice. We have a
sizable paper run of Biological Abstracts, which was continued in
microfilm before we ended up dropping our subscription in 1993. Our
students have access to BasicBiosis in FirstSearch which covers from
1988 to the present. We are considering weeding those volumes which
are available online in order to create more space for other things.

We have been debating this topic among ourselves for awhile now and
would appreciate knowing how others in this sort of situation have
handled such decisions.

Thanks!
