Subject: fulltext IAC databases

Thanks to everyone who responded to my question about putting fulltext
journals in the OPAC.

Many people responded that they decided not to put these titles on their
opac. Most of these libraries make available a printed list of
titles--either of their own creation or from the vendor.

A few libraries are adding the fulltext titles to their local catalog.
One librarian said that this was "viewed as a method of establishing
'ownership' ..." Their local holdings screens look like this:

        CALL NO: Electronic Journal
        TITLE: Time.
        LOCATION: Copy 2 SearchBank Academic
        STATUS: Currently received
Library retains only the latest 3 years.
World Wide Web address: www.searchbank.com/searchbank/ns_main
Ask us for articles not available on this campus.

Their Acquisitions team will monitor changes in titles once a year.

Others simply add a note to a particular title, saying that it is also
available in fulltext through....

What we decided to do was to add a copy record to currently existing
titles in our OPAC for electronic format. We include the starting date of
fulltext
coverage and information about which database(s) contain the title.

The text looks like this:

Electronic Periodical
Fulltext on SearchBank's Expanded Academic Index
1/83 - present
Fulltext on SearchBank's Business Index
1/83 - present

For titles that we don't hold in any other format, we will be downloading
OCLC records and adding the information (as above).

If you have any questions, please contact me.
