MAKING STATISTICS WORK FOR YOUR LIBRARY--WITHOUT PAIN
Presented by the ALCTS Research and Statistics Committee
Thursday, June 26, 1997

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
Statistical data plays an important role in day-to-day operations of
all kinds and sizes of libraries, but how many of us are really
comfortable with collecting, analyzing, manipulating and presenting
statistical data even if it's part of our job? The goal of this
preconference is to demonstrate that generation and use of statistics
are not difficult, and further, that the effort to create useful
statistics has practical applications for managing today's libraries
from support for decision-making to projecting collection use.

Objectives are: providing an introduction to the uses of statistics
in librarianship; giving practical tips on gathering and analyzing
data; showing how managers can use statistics in planning and
decision-making; demonstrating effective techniques for statisical
presentations.

AUDIENCE

Those who generate management statistics and reports, and
administrators who use them in all types of libraries.
