Labels to use to print serial spine labels at time of receipt Helen Thompson 27 May 1997 15:30 UTC

Hi everyone

I am the Serials Supervisor at the Northern Territory University
Library (Australia).

At present we are still handwriting spine labels for serials at time of
receipt, or typing as required for bound volumes, etc. We want to use the
Dynix Serials Module to print serial spine labels at time of receipt.
This query is not restricted to Dynix users.

We would like to be able to print a label for each issue at time of
receipt and have a carriage return before printing the label for the next
issue receipted [so that the label can be removed and put on the issue,
before moving on to the next issue to be receipted], but I have only found
sprocket punched self-adhesive spine labels ('Oasis call no. labels')
which are two labels across, which are unsuitable as they have foil
backing which lifts off when rolling through printer, and S&M Supply Co.
(Australia) will not produce them without the foil backing.. The Digital
printers we plan to use require a minimum of approximately 7 cm between
the sprockets.

I would be delighted to hear from libraries who are printing spine
labels at time of receipt to find out what sort of labels are being
used, and who supplies them!

I would also like to hear from libraries who are also having the same
difficulty I am in locating appropriate labels, so that I can gain some
idea of the support for suitable labels to be produced in Australia (if
none are currently available), and lobby Australian suppliers to either
(a) purchase from an overseas source, or (b) print labels to suit
specifications provided.

Looking forward to your replies.

Helen
